Day-asan National High School History
Day-asan National High School is the official name of the school with school ID number 304803. It was formerly known as Institute of Marine Science and Fisheries.
On June 8, 1998, Surigao del Norte College of Agriculture and Technology (SNCAT) Institute of Marine Science and Fisheries (IMSF) started its first day of classes at the old Barangay Hall located at Purok 4, Barangay Day-asan, Surigao City. There were 51 freshmen students officially enrolled in S.Y 1998-1999, stewarded by Mr. Marino L. Pamogas, the pioneer mentor.
On February 11, 1999, a City Ordinance no.538 was officially approved creating Institute of Marine Science and Fisheries otherwise known as SNCAT- IMSF, annex of SNCAT, Magpayang, Surigao del Norte. This was realized through the support of the former City- Mayor Hon. Alfonso S. Casurra, the late City- Mayor, Rolando A. Sering, the late Barangay Captain, Hon. Jose A. Catarman, College Administrator, Dr. Wilfredo C. Tiu and the Incumbent Barangay Captain, Hon. Henry Celeste together with the councilmen.
Year 1998, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in coordination with the City Government and LGU of Day-asan donated 57.09 hectares of mangroves are as Fishery Laboratory site and the city government itself had also donated one (1) hectare of land area intended for the school site on the same year. After 4 years of existence, SNCAT- IMSF has produced pioneering graduates.
A joint Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and Department of Education (DepEd), mandated all secondary institutions administered by TESDA should be transferred to the Department of Education (DepEd). At that time, there was a transition; SNCAT-IMSF was first under the umbrella of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED),it was turned-over to the Technical Education and Development Authority (TESDA). Finally, the secondary school was totally carved out from TESDA to the Department of Education specifically to the DepEd Division of Surigao City.
On August 1, 2002, a turnover ceremony was done between SNCAT- IMSF and the DepEd witnessed by the different agencies in Surigao City. In fact, Schools Division
Superintendent Leticia R. Naig was there during this memorable event when she was still the Assistant Schools Division Superintendent in Surigao del Norte Division. In the event of cracking a school from its foundation, it would be group looking for a strong foundation to stand firm. As such, the newly carved out school was adopted as annex school of Surigao City National High School. January 2007, the project of ABAKADA Foundation composed of two modules, each consists of three (3) classrooms, a total of six (6) was constructed. Simultaneously, the Principal- led capability building was also built in the same year.
With the support of the DepEd , school head, LGU and the community, the new buildings were erected- three LGU donated makeshift classroom and two concrete classroom donated from the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry, FFCCI) incorporated for the S.Y. 2005-2006.
There were seven (7) sections in the S.Y. 2006-2007 but only five (5) classes were accommodated to the newly built classrooms. The other two sections were still occupying the covered court waiting for the additional classrooms..
In its existence, DNHS was blessed despite looking back from its humble beginnings; the school has been serving six (6) feeder barangays for effective delivery of the basic education.
The administration of DNHS would like to believe that they would be able to make the difference as the catalyst towards the development of competent and productive citizens that would become effective partners in the development of the community.
This is the memorable and worth remembering DAY-ASAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL on its existence for shaping the lives of the people for better future.
